March 14/10

World Enduro Canada in co-operation with our sanctioning partner, the Canadian Motorsports Racing Club, is pleased to announce further details for the 2010 Ontario Cross Country Championship. After launching a successful Canadian Enduro Championship in 2009 WEC was eager to expand their racing presence with a prestigious Regional Championship.

"Even though our attention was sharply focused on the disciplines of Enduro and Trials, we were working for the past year in the background with race organizers and land owners to create a Cross Country series in Ontario for 2010" says Sean Wiesner of World Enduro Canada. "Ontario, as we know, has a long history of off-road racing and has hosted some very good events over the years and we have seen some talented riders emerge. The fact is; there is a much greater depth of talent in Quebec and in the West than what currently exists here in Ontario. It is our full intention of promoting Cross Country racing in this province to a level that will attract new riders to the sport and motivate those good riders we have to a level of excellence where they can compete at a National and International level. We will be working with some highly motivated new event organizers with new venues. You will also see Cross Country racing at some National level Motocross facilities. I am also very happy to say we will be working alongside some very experienced Ontario Clubs. It's going to be a great year for Ontario racers."

WEC worked with a number of Ontario Off Road Clubs to finalize the rules and classes for the new series. These clubs have proven their ability to promote top notch events and it was important in moving forward to get their input on how to make this series the best quality product possible. The input recieved from these organizers has not only shaped the new Ontario series but created a positive change in how Cross Country events across Canada will be run.

The schedule has been split into a spring and fall series with seperate championships for each series. The schedule is on our site http://www.worldendurocanada.com/cross_country.htm but will be recieving a few minor date changes in the next few weeks as the individual event organizers tweak the available dates for the event properties. We will send out another press release as soon as it has been finalized. Specific details regarding each event will be available on our site as soon as they are made available to us by the individual event promoters.

The Classes and number plate colour combinations will be as follows;

** see rulebook for exact motorcycle restrictions and requirements for mini classes.

Input has been gathered from the Ontario organizers to ammend the existing CMRC Cross Country rule book and it will be posted on our site soon.

The events will be electronically scored to the tenth of a second with the WEC electronic timing system. Riders will wear a small transponder and ride through timing towers after each lap. Transponders will be $40 to purchase or $20 to rent for a single event. These units can be used at all the Ontario Cross Country events, Canadian Enduro Championships and the US National Enduro Championship. They are durable units and if taken care of properly can be used year after year.

To assist riders with the cost of transponders WEC has secured sponsorship from Apex Cycle www.apexcycle.ca in Waterloo and Ross Rocher Sales www.rossrochersales.ca in Stratford. Both of these shops cater to the Off Road community and want to give back. For each new transponder purchased competitors will recieve a $20 gift certificate from each shop making them essentially FREE. WEC is proud to have partners like Rocher Sales and Apex on board - both of them will also be involved as title sponsors of various events in this exciting new series

WEC racing licenses will be available very soon. We are waiting for the CMRC to revise their registration progam with WEC licenses. For $70 you recieve a WEC license allowing you to enter the WEC Ontario Cross Country or Canadian Enduro Championship events. For and additional $50 you can upgrade to a full CMRC license which will allow you to enter any WEC or CMRC events across Canada. Riders who already hold a 2010 CMRC license and plan to ride WEC events do not need to purchase anything extra. We are hoping to have this available within a week and will announce it on our site as well as through an email press release.

Helmets used in competition are recommended to be Snell 2005, its equivalent or better.

We want to thank everyone involved for all thier help in getting this new series up and running. We overcame a number of challenges and look forward to having all the final details sorted out so we can start racing.
