On behalf of the Flat Top Motorsports Club I would like to thank everyone who supported our race. We had 450 entries and only one ambulance ride. This was the most succesful race Slave Lake has ever put on. No dust, no rain, no conflict and LONG MOTOS! I would especially like to thank the PMA for showing up with so many riders and the people who made the long trip from the south. The race started on time and was over at 5:30. With any luck the rest of the Provincial series will be as succesful.
Thanks again

It was an exciting weekend for us at BUMP this past weekend.
And we would like to thank everyone at the dealer level and the participant level that supported our event.
From the County of Barrhead's perspective, you can't even tell we had a race. County roads & ditches were not ripped up, and basically zero garbage left.
Off-road riding has been a problem in Barrhead County, after this event they're looking forward to us to actively develop our off-road riding facility. Along with this, hopefully help off-road riders understand accountability and sustainability.
Thank you to all.

I would just like to tip my hat to the riders and spectators that made it out to Temple Hill for the season opener April 27th. When it was all said and done, the venue was left in perfect shape. There is always a big welcome back to people who show respect to the Park the way you all did this past weekend. Thank you.
We will see you again at the Western Amateur Nationals: Gerry Nelson

Chris' latest MRI
After Chris' last MRI in September, we were very happy of course….but reserved. We didn't want to celebrate too early, just in case.
Well….LET'S PARTY!!!! We got the results from his MRI last Monday and it's CLEAN once again. I think it might be safe to say that we are winning this battle.
After 3-1/2 years of cancer consuming our every waking (and sleeping) thought, we can finally focus on living normal lives.
Thank you all for the firm foundation of friendship and support that you have given us throughout this nightmare; now let's put this behind us and have FUN.

Thank you from the Schmidt Family
We would like to take this opportunity of the Christmas season to express our extreme gratitude to all our family and friends in the motocross community.
We are on a very difficult journey with Jason and the overwhelming amounts of support shown to us are amazing. God has given us a miracle. Jason was given a 10% chance of survival and through the power of faith and prayer has overcome that and many other obstacles.
We are standing by the scripture given to Jason:
For I will restore health unto thee and I will heal thee of thy wounds. Jeremiah 30:13
Jason is now in rehabilitation at the Glenrose hospital until the end of January, although we did get to have home for Christmas. He currently is physically, mentally and spiritually strong but still has a long journey ahead of him. We ask that you continue to pray for the return of his vision as the doctors are still unsure of the outcome.
Special thanks to all Jason’s friends who have been with him daily through visits and phone calls and prayers. Your unfailing friendship is crucial to his recovery.
All your support has instilled in us the importance of friendship, caring and forgiveness. We can never repay everyone for their kindness except by paying it forward to someone else in need. If we all can learn that then all that Jason has been through will not be in vain.
Thank you all once again. We pray you all have a wonderfully blessed Christmas and New Year. We hope to see you all at the track and we pray for all to have a safe year.
With sincere thanks,
Dale, Leah, Michelle, Jason and Nicole Schmidt

Update on Chris' Health
Although our most apprehensive test result was last month when we were
waiting for Chris' brain MRI (which was clean); we were also holding our
breath to see what this last test result would present. We had an appt
last week with our oncologist to get the results of a bone scan and scan
on Chris' liver and lungs. Although there never was an issue with his
bones or liver, melanoma typically goes to the lymph nodes, liver,
lungs, bones, and brain so our oncologist just wants to make sure it
hasn't metastized elsewhere. His bones and liver are both clean and of
the 2 spots on his lungs, one remains unchanged at .5 cm (and it has
never changed) so they're calling it benign. The second spot (which has
progressively gotten bigger every time we've tested it - from 1.5 to 1.8
to 2.0 to 2.5) is actually shrinking! We are so excited! Even several
people have commented on how good he looks (apparently he was quite gray
this summer but he's pink again).
We are not ready to back off on any of his treatments yet, but for the
first time throughout this nightmare, we are seeing a light at the end
of the tunnel. We are starting to think beyond tomorrow. We are really
looking forward to Christmas because we have so much to celebrate; and
we're looking forward to not letting cancer dominate every conversation
and thought.
We've got another brain MRI booked for early February and abdominal scan
for April.
Thanks again for your thoughts and support.

Jason Schmidt Update
Jason is now at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton where he will spend his time with many recovery specialists. Our most recent visit was Sunday November 4th, he was doing well and anxious to get started on his rehabilitation. Jason is determined to get well quickly and has set some personal goals that I am sure he will achieve. Keep him and the Schmidt family in your prayers.

Bikes Found
My son, Keylan, found two
dirt
bikes in the irrigation canal by our home and it is highly likely they were
stolen and dumped. I have contacted the Police, but so far they have
showed
little interest, so thought I might start enquiring if anyone has reported
them missing. We have only pulled one of them out and it is a 2002 Honda
XR200. The other “appears” to be a Yamaha but we haven’t pulled it out. I
was hoping the Police would take care of that. Both have been totally
submerged in the water and may not be much good now, but we had a bike
stolen a couple years ago and we would really have wanted to find it
regardless. I’m thinking this could be the same. The bike looks to have
been
in reasonable shape before it went in the water, so I wouldn’t think it
would be someone dumping it in the canal because they were too cheap to
take
it to the dump. There are no plate numbers on the bike, but I do have the
serial number. So, if anyone has reported it, you could give them my
phone
number (403) 279-1809.
Thanks, Kirby Meston

Jason Schmidt Update
Oct 30th, 2007
Jason is going to be moving to the Glenrose Hospital located downtown Edmonton. This is a fantastic recovery facility and Jason is definitely in recovery mode.
I had the pleasure of witnessing Jason visit with three close friends on Monday the 29th such spark came to him when his friends entered the room. Lots of joking, thumb wars (Jason cheats to win), ball tossing and discussion regarding the cute nurses. Jason also listed off all the friends that stopped by while in Edmonton for the banquet, he was so happy.
Jason is eating small amounts of smooth, soft food such as yogurt and apple sauce his feeding tube will remain in until his swallow gets stronger but I am sure he will soon be eating full meals. The Physical Therapists are happy with the strength Jason is gaining as well as his speech progression. Though he has not regained his sight as of yet anything is possible, he has proven that.
Having friends to talk to is a huge part of Jason's recovery so if your in the area drop by and say hi. He'll be glad to see you.

Jason Schmidt Trust Fund
Please see below, the information for the Trust Fund for Jason:
A deposit can be made into any Scotia Bank in Canada the account number is 311790326682 the branch is in Leduc, AB branch number is 31179.
The bank is giving me a book and they will also have one on location so we can keep track of who has made a donation. I know some folks will prefer to keep their donation anonymous that's great too, but I am sure that Jason and his family would eventually like to be able to thank everyone who has supported his recovery and future.
Once a donation has been made it would be great to get a call or e-mail so I can record the location and name of the donor.
Thanks

Jason Schmidt Update
As of today Oct 22/07 Jason is talking a little, sitting up and walking assisted in small amounts. On Monday, Oct 15th Jay had surgery on his good eye because he had no sight. The surgeon removed a blood clot from behind Jason's good eye and let us know that the eye itself is healthy and the retina is attached but as of this morning Jason still can't see. It can take time (a couple of months) for vision to return so now we just wait and pray.
Friends and conversation are a big part of recovery and though Jason can't see you he can certainly hear you so having a friend read a magazine article or just pop in for a visit is great. Jason still has a feeding tube but we hope to find out about removal of it this week and trust fund papers are at the bank so I should have more info about that this week too. As always if you have any questions feel free to contact me Cheryl 780 387-5864 or coletan@ralcomm.net

HE TALKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jason had his first round of reconstructive surgery on Tuesday, it took about 10 hours but all went well and he now has titanium plates and screws along his eye socket, cheek and sinus cavity. The bone flap has been placed back and his feeding tube now travels through his nose and throat rather than his mouth.
The best news of all is that today Jason talked...............
The nurse was trying to push his feeding tube further down to his stomach and kept asking Jay to swallow, Jay was getting very agitated and finally said "I can't swallow" (Jay has been swallowing it was just while the nurse was pushing the tube that he was struggling). He then proceeded to say "it hurts" ,when he was asked what hurt he said "my jaw". When the doctors implanted the titanium plates they had to go up through the gum/lip area and he was telling the people present that it hurt. So for now they have him back on morphine for pain but we are very excited about him speaking so clearly. Soon Jay will be back in a private room and moving forward with his recovery. I am sure when he gets back to a private room he will be happy to see some friends.
Have a great Thanksgiving weekend

Jason Schmidt Update
#797
Visited Jason Saturday the 29th, Jays Mom Leah, Coleman and Tanner Wood, Mrs. Nelson, Travis Nelson and myself shared a couple of great moments. Jason lobbed a soft, squishy ball a dozen or so times with the boys and managed to maneuver a hand (toy) motorbike into a catwalk position down his chest. We cheered and he smiled it was great!!
On a more serious note Jason's reconstructive surgery is scheduled to start Tuesday, October 2nd. The surgeons will be using some of Jays bone but will be adding titanium plates and screws. During this first surgery they will also remove some air that is currently in his skull cavity. There is a chance that he will be placed back in ICU but we hope Jason will recover quickly and be in a private room. The care of the staff at the Stollery has been second to none, we are so lucky to have a facility of this quality in our area.
As always if you have any question please do not hesitate to call. Cheryl Wood 780 387-5864 coletan@ralcomm.net.

Jason Schmidt Update
Monday September 24th, Jason Schmidt is progressing steadily.
The doctors hope to start reconstructive surgery the end of this week. The goal with the first surgery is to rebuild his sinus cavity and eye socket as well as replace the bone flap that had been removed.
Jason has been on "room" air for 2 days now which means he is not being assisted by any form of oxygen and he is no longer on intervenes. All fluids and nourishment are being administered by a feeding tube.
The nurses place Jason in a chair bed daily and are gradually inclining him so before long he should be in a full upright sitting position.
Though Jason is not speaking yet we are confident that he is aware of what is happening around him because of his actions, after sneezing on a friend and his Mom this weekend he expressed a small but definite smile. Jason's recovery is not going to happen overnight but it is through these small gestures that the hospital staff along with his family and friends see improvement.
A Trust fund is in the works and information will be posted soon. Please keep your positive thoughts and prayers coming they are truly appreciated.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me Cheryl Wood 780 387-5864 or

Jason Schmidt Update
I'm sure that many of you are wondering how things are going so here are some facts.
Jason has serious head injuries but is recovering and has been moved from ICU to 4D in the Stollery. Surgery was done immediately to reduce swelling on his brain and reconstructive surgery will need to be done to repair an eye socket and his sinus cavity as they were crushed. Jason has no facial scaring or broke bones, from the bridge of his nose down there are no signs of trauma. On Tuesday September 11th Jason had surgery and his right eye had to be removed but his left eye is health. Tuesday night the staples in his skull and trachea were also removed, he is recieving oxygen through his nose but is breathing on his own. Jason's head was shaved for initial surgery but his hair is growing back and looks like a brush cut now, the swelling from his eyes up has reduced and Jason is looking more and more like himself. After spending more time at the hospital today I am happy to report that though Jason can't speak yet he certainly can see and hear you when you talk or read to him, he is able to squeeze hands as well as wiggle fingers and toes. I am not happy to tell you that the doctors are treating Jason for a pulmonary embolism (blood clot) in one of his lungs, it was found this weekend and there are many risks involved with that we need to try to be patient and let the medication disolve the blood clot so Jason can continue to recover. Lots of rest is needed right now so visitors are limited but your support by way of letters/cards and prayers are greatly appreciated.
If anyone has questions regarding Jason and his family please do not hesitate to contact me.

We had a problem in Lethbridge on Friday night when we had one of our bikes stolen. It was a 2002 Honda CR125 plate number 216, with after market FMF muffler, black front and rear fenders. The front fender had "Factory Connection" graphics on both sides. They will probably strip off the plate numbers, but might leave the black fenders with graphics. If you happen to notice a new bike around the track, could you please contact Constable Nolan Meyer of the Lethbridge Police at 403-327-2210.

Further to the controversy over the “Widow Maker” jump at Gopher Back Raceway, in Lloydminster, not being included as part of the race course at the ADRA MX Provincial series race held there on May 12/13, 2007, please see below, the letter sent to the Lloydminster Offroad Riders Association.
March 28, 2007
Lloydminster Offroad Riders Association
Attn: Mr. Dwayne Lawryk – President
Dear Dwayne;
At the recent ADRA Executive meeting, held March 24, 2007, and based on the current underwriting guidelines, the ADRA Executive voted unanimously to have the “Widow Maker” jump modified to provide a safer jump and landing.
Safety is the number one consideration when it comes to jumps. Jumps should be made to accommodate all skill levels of riders. The ADRA has received letters and correspondence of concern about the Widow Maker, and even threats of boycotting by some families should there be no change made. The remedy is to make the jump into a tabletop.
Failure to comply and modify the jump by the date of your first event may result in the cancellation of your 2007 and future events. The jump will be inspected before your first event. Please do not feel that your track is being singled out by any means, the safety at all ADRA tracks in Alberta is always under scrutiny.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ADRA office at info@albertadirtriders.com.
Yours in racing;
The 2007 Alberta Dirt Riders Association Executive

An open to letter to everyone:
I’m sorry it’s taken some time to Thank everyone. Anne has been doing me proud and keeping everyone up to date with my progress. For her I’m eternally grateful, through all this.
Words can never express how overwhelmed I’ve been with all the support, prayers. Positive well wish’s, and questions.
I know I’ve been dealt a poor deal BUT I’m not through YET! and don’t anyone doubt it. (I still just want to ride my dirt bike.)
First, I’d like to thank the Wild Rose Motocross Ass. and all the volunteers, thank you for the auction held at the park. I was amazed to see all the people that turned out and got involved.
I’ve said several times to friends I feel like George Bailey in the all time movie classic ”It’s a Wonderful Life” at the end of the movie when everyone comes to his support. No words can ever express the pride, emotion, and feelings I felt that evening. Thank you.
To the Extreme raceways Club and the Martens family and all volunteers, you guys are awesome. For all you did at your cancer event. Thank you greatly, and best of luck too you all.
To the Lethbridge Clubs, Gerry, Heather and all the great people of that region, I look forward to riding with you in many a deep fried turkey camping weekends.
To all racers, clubs, friends, industry support and all others that have got behind me to help, I am eternally grateful.
So far the traditional medical community has still given me the doom and gloom, but recently as of early November, my tests have not shown any deterioration. (good)
As for the IMI clinic and their treatments, My blood tests and other results have improved dramatically. My Doctor is quite impressed very supportive and positive. I’m still on a restrictive diet and taking lots of supplements and continuing IV treatments. No hyperbaric sessions for awhile, The clinic continues to help out a lot.
My family has been blessed by a good person and friend and will take a holiday to Mexico till December 18th, to relax, spend some close family time and help me see even more what I’m fighting for.
As for what’s ahead in the start of the New Year. I will undergo another barrage of tests including an MRI, Cat scan and others. Then we will have a better idea of my health.
So over the holidays, just keep sending positive thoughts and prayers and I hope to return and prove so many doctors wrong with my results.
Again, I can never express enough to everyone Thank you in my continued support.
Chris

When you are thinking about building a practice track, or for that matter doing any ground disturbance, one of the first things that you should do is submit a locate request to Alberta One Call. The number to call is 1-800-242-3447. You can also fax your request to 1-800-940-3447 or use the Internet at www.alberta1call.com. The members of Alberta One Call will be informed of your request and will contact you within 48 business hours to discuss the locate. This is a free service; all it costs you is a little time.
There are over 500,000 kilometres of pipelines and other underground utilities in the province of Alberta so the chances of your project being impacted by a pipeline or other utility is fairly high. As well, the pipeline industry is regulated by the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (for pipelines remaining within the province) and the National Energy Board (for pipelines crossing provincial or international borders). Both of these bodies require that the pipeline operator must be informed of any surface construction or ground disturbance that occurs within 30 metres of a pipeline. For any ground disturbance or activity within the pipeline right of way you must have the written approval of the operator before work can commence.
Not all underground facility owners or municipalities are members of One Call and would have to be directly contacted to provide locates. You can get a list of members off the One Call website. As well, some underground facilities such as the Powerline from your house to a garage or shop would be owned by you and would not be located by a One Call member company.
You can save yourself some time, possibly some money or in the worst case an injury or fatality by making one simple call.
